Dear Kamini & Robin,
Your family is such an important part of my life and it has been a gift beyond words to create portraits of you all over the years. Our first session -- a multigenerational portrait complete with grandparents and cousins -- seems like yesterday. And suddenly, 15 years have passed, your family has grown from four to six, and your two oldest are off to university. What a gift to have photographed so many milestones along the journey.
Kamini and Robin, I have such deep admiration for you both and love for you and your children. You are incredibly devoted parents working demanding jobs and pursuing your vocations, setting an example of dedication, drive, and passion for your children all while supporting them in academics, soccer, dance, volleyball, public service, volunteering, travel, writing and anything else that emerges – all centered in your Indian culture which is at the core of your family. And your family is all heart, gushing with kindness, overflowing with love that is impossible to contain. Despite the wheels spinning in all directions, you are each so anchored together and you both provide remarkable stability and a nurturing cocoon for your babies - because even grown, they will always be your babies.
As I reflect on the beautiful way you have empowered your children through love and encouragement, I am reminded of this quote from the Dalai Lama, “Give the ones you love wings to fly, roots to come back, reasons to stay.” This is how you parent, my dear friends. And it is with so much love that I write you this note in celebration of you, your friendship, and your family. And it is with the deepest gratitude that I thank you for the gift of being a part of this journey with you and your amazing children.
With friendship, admiration, and love,
Ginny
