The Lesson My Daughter Taught Me

In first grade, my daughter’s teacher had to take a week off from school. A few days into her absence, my daughter said to me with deep concern in her voice that she could not remember what her teacher looked liked. She couldn’t even see her face. She was so sad that she had already lost a sense of this person who had such a presence in her life.

My daughter taught me how quickly our memories fade and she reminded me of the incredible importance behind printing and preserving photographs — not only in my work in the studio but also from our cellphones and cameras. Because images fade quickly and our minds are faulty hard-drives. Even in this digital age, we need to keep filling those shoe boxes with photographs and memories for our children to remember their lives by and to share with future generations.
